How it works
Mento uses an on-chain reserve and exchange mechanisms rather than a dedicated bank account holding one real per token. Its V2 transition proposal discusses retaining BRLm's USDm pool with revised trading limits.
Backing
A shared on-chain reserve of digital assets and exchange mechanisms support the system; there is no dedicated real bank deposit per BRLm.
What the project says
Mento aims to provide on-chain assets tracking local currencies.
The project
History
BRLm was previously called cREAL and is part of the Mento ecosystem on Celo.
People and issuer
Mento is a protocol governed through community proposals and voting.
Access and redemption
Users can swap through Mento or secondary venues when supported. A protocol swap into another token is different from redemption for bank reais.
Transparency
Mento publishes reserve and governance information; proposed or deployed mechanisms should be checked separately.
What to check
- Governance, oracle conditions and trading limits can change access and pricing.
- Mento's documentation lists StableTokenBRL at 0xe8537a3d056da446677b9e9d6c5db704eaab4787 on Celo.
